THAT just happened.

took a no planned last minute trip. been super annoying with my facebook posts. my camera decided to have problems so i dont have any real pics to document it besides the ones i took with my iphone.

right now i am listening to rosie thomas + fleet foxes trying to relax and shut down for bed... here's what happened on the trip.

friday -
fly to vegas, pick up rental car, check into the stratosphere, get 3 mini aps. and 3 mini deserts in the rotating 106 story high restaurant, hit one whole side of the strip. gambling, water fountains, fire volcano show, drinks, looking at stuff, talking to drunk people. mgm for giant dinner burgers then a cab home. crash

saturday -
get up, check out, breakfast, get a flat of water and sun screen, go to the welcome to vegas sign for a pic, hop on rt 15 west, take a detour into the mojave preserve, see worlds largest joshua tree forest, go to the the kelso dunes where the ranger strongly recommends we not climb them (its 120 degrees not on the dunes). we decide hes right. watch a video. take the tour of the building, continue on until we find an unmarked mining road, drive the trusty focus up it (the ranger recomended we not do this too, but whateves.) 5 miles later in the middle of the desolate desert - lava tube. climb down. and in. through a pitch black hole into the earth. scenery in general was amazing with lava rocks everywhere. so fucking cool. buried a skull in the sand for someone else to find. drove out and on to la. went to chelle and jims. then to the santa monica pier for a walk / ferris wheel ride. home. crash

sunday -
sleep in. relaxing morning, brunch with a lot of alcohol? getty for tons of art, relaxing in the amazing gardens and looking at the huge view of LA. shark sunday at the aquarium. crazy sea lions, shark and stingray touching. dinner at a place with a giant bar on the water (i forget the name) but incredible mac and cheese. quick detour to see the queen mary and a russian sub. then over to a little park with crazy cushy grass to watch the big planes fly directly overhead as they come in for landing at LAX. awesome steam on the wings and close up chem trails. you can practically see the passengers as they roar overhead. loud. home. crash.

monday -
coffees, pack up, return the rental, hop on a plane. hop on another plane. home now. crashing now.

anyway.

its nice to have a spontaneous reminder that the only thing stopping us from the fun / things we deserve to have is the ability to put ourselves in the right position and say yes.

awesome weekend. thanks tkbs, chelle and jim.

I've been following The Field Lab for a while. He seems like a really cool guy. I especially enjoyed this post that was in my reader this morning.

Just sharing...

i get around the world upon your freeways it's true, when you let it go.

i got home and for some reason thought ordering chinese food and watching dr. phil would make me feel better. i guess its not surprising that it only made me feel lazy and gross. so i walked to centennial field, watched a lakemonsters game and walked home. the 7 mile walk made me feel less lazy and gross but not really better.

so i took you as my date
dressed fancy
all up on a hot hot hot summers afternoon
to a wedding on a mountain
with an old shack and a path
there were wild flowers
and butterflies and men peeing just off a logging road

at the reception in the tent at the field
i brought you drinks
'because that's what a good date does'
and i danced with you
'because that's what a good date does'
i watched you flirt / dance / and hang off some other guy the last half of the nite.
must be what a good date does?

near the end of the reception
you were drunk
i decided we needed to leave
we walked out of the tent
the path had turned muddy over the evening and you were in heels.
i carried you the 100+ yards through the mud
to the car
you laughed at me and started screaming
at my threats to put you down.

i drove your car.
you fell asleep 5 minutes into the hour long trip.
slept the whole ride.
at your house. you refused to wake up to walk yourself in the house.
stubborn.
i carried you inside and put you on your bed.
you stood up and took off your dress
then laid down and passed out instantly
without saying a word to me.

i left
walked home at 2 am
mud covered dress shoes
thin dress socks
shirt, tie
3 + miles
90 + humid degrees

the next day, around noon, i get a text
'where are you? why didn't you stay?'
'why would i stay?'
'i would have given you a ride home in the morning'
'i didn't want to assume i could sleep in the bed of a passed out half naked girl.'

silence.

later on
i brought you to a show
and drove you back to your house
with a dude you picked up.
tried to sleep but gave up again

my list of constants is down to trees
rivers, lakes, ponds, fields,
flowers, rocks, sky.

i dont see them as often as i'd like. in the way that i would like.
but thats ok. i know where they are and what they do.

we do crazy things when we're wounded everyone's a bit insane I don't want you catching your death of cold out walking in the rain

remember whats left
in a circle of passes
who's around when you're pale?
the flies, ant, hundreds of baby earwigs and me
and maybe some people with a giant truck full of kids.
snickers and laying on owls head.
drive fast on the pot holed heaved 232
for therapy.
helpful strong talented hands
spare 20's for boxes of crayons,
clovers
geraniums
balsam
visits.

i'll tell you a secret I'll make it perfectly clear there's no secrets this year so your hearts blown open consider with your ear we are still sincere

been a lot going on i haven't blogged about. thats. ok.

will start rough francis recording soon. it should be a fun time. 4 or 5 songs? we'll see.

got something in the mail:

a field of colors by charlie lennox on mud luscious press

this is a small short chapbook about a mystical property magic field and some girls who keep the owner company.

you can get a copy free here if you want. i think it still available?

i'd give this press a bunch of my poems if they wanted to give them away in a tiny book. id even write something special that had to do with dirt, sweat, guitars, and stretched out t-shirts.

im typing all hunched over. the power supply to my laptop is broken again. i dont dare touch anything.

gotta get some things in the mail
a rough stop with the bag and the feet
a direct path
direct path
a northern stop
distracts the progress of tradition
but lends to the
get along of exception

thanks.

been pretty busy not watching david byrne in an all white suit lately.

a month or so ago i went looking for beaver sticks
i found a few good ones but only kept one
i decided it was going to be my lucky beaver stick
i'm not sure why exactly that stick. or why i needed luck.
but i put it in my bag and its been there ever since.
